Emile

Emile Amyotte

Emile was born in Mallaig, Alberta.  The 10th son to Oscar Amyotte and Diana Dionne.  He likes to say "the 11 boys each have 2 sisters".

His wife, Jeannine was born in Delmas, Saskatchewan.  The second born to Robert Roy and Yvonne Blais.  In September 1957, she and her sister Louise left on a great adventure to the wilds of Alberta and a little town called Mallaig.  There they discovered this great family of wonderfully tall and handsome men.  Jeannine only had eyes for Emile.  They married in 1960 and left for their honeymoon in a '58 Volks Wagon.  They covered 5200 miles to end in Québec discovering many relatives along the way.

Emile worked at several jobs; the post office, the telephone switchboard, at the Searle Grain elevator, selling insurance, working at the credit union and also in construction with the St. Arnault's.  With so many jobs, it's a wonder that he had the time but they had 4 boys in 7 years: Pierre. François, Laurin and Luc.

One July, they packed everything up and moved to Delmas.  In December that same year, they packed up again and moved to Edmonton. Jeannine was 8 months pregnant and Emile had no job but their faith was strong.  One month later, their only daughter, Micheline, was born and Emile started his apprenticeship in plumbing.  The kids were growing fast, playing hockey and learning to be good workers.

In 1977, having worked the land, the whole family built a cabin together on Ulliac Beach south of Lac la Biche.  So many great memories of summers spent with family and friends. Emile and Jeannine are working hard, involved in the parish, volunteering, Knights of Colombus, etc, etc.  One by one, the kids leave the nest and before you know the 2 have become 27.  Not a huge family by Amyotte standards but noisy enough.

After they retired, Emile and Jeannine renovated a house that they soon transformed into a Bed and Breakfast. They named it Amy du Roy, its slogan "You will be welcomed as friends and treated like kings"  The many returning customers certainly agreed.  Emile and Jeannine got a kick out of being called Amy and Roy.

Emile and Jeannine will be celebrating 55 years of marriage this year.  Like so many other male Amyotte's, Emile's hair has fallen out, Jeannine's has turned grey but their hearts are still young and have so much love for each other and their family.
