Hector Amyotte
Hector Amyotte was born in Mallaig on October 15 1934. His first 9 years of schooling were done at the Mallaig school.
He then traveled to the big city of Edmonton to complete grade 10, 11 and 12 at College Saint Jean. He was very active in every kind of sport but especially hockey. Out of all the Amyotte brothers, Hector was the only Toronto Maple Leafs fan as opposed to the Montreal Canadiens--and that always brought on great discussion!!!
After high school, he was hired by Stuart Olsen Construction and proceeded to finish his apprentiship through SAIT.During these years in 1958,he married Lorette Poirier who was a school teacher in Mallaig. They moved to Edmonton, and started their family of 4 children-Victor, Marc, Ronald and Carmen.
He started his own construction company called H. Amyotte Construction Ltd. and prided himself on hardwork and honesty. During his spare time, he was an active member of Mayfield community and contributed in any way possible--he was also the last one to leave any community league dance-(hard to believe for an Amyotte!!)
At the young age of 45, Hector was in a car accident which left him handicapped for the rest of his days. He lived at Lynnwood Extended Care Centre for 23 years until he deceased in 2003 at age 69.
