About René

Rene Hubert was born in Elk Point, Alberta on the 5th of January 1933. He is the 10th child born in the family of Oscar and Diana Amyotte. He left school early in order to help his father on the farm. On the 5th of July 1958 he married Louise Roy born on the 5th of January 1937 in Delmas, Saskatchewan. They had 2 sons, Jean Robert born April 5, 1959 and Andre Oscar born September 5, 1962. Rene's family lived on the farm in Mallaig until September 1965. Being a teacher of good reputation Louise quickly got a job as a grade 3 teacher with the Saint-Paul school board as did Rene as a janitor with that same school. How convenient!

Rene was a hard worker and quickly realized that he needed a good day job,one that would allow him to be with his children when they got home from school. He purchased a big truck and started working for the post office delivering mail and picking up cream to the small towns north of Saint-Paul.He hired his cousin Raymond Dionne to help him with the janitor work at night.

In 1970, the family moved to Edmonton because Louise decided to further her education. Rene got a job that he was very familiar with...delivering milk; to stores and restaurants on Jasper avenue! He enjoyed doing this job because he got to meet all kinds of people, especially on the tough Jasper avenue run! Back to Saint Paul in 1972 where they both continued with teaching and delivering mail.

Every year Rene and his family took advantage of the summer months to travel (coast to coast). In 1976 the family moved again to Edmonton for the last time. Rene worked as a realtor. Real estate was right down his alley and he proved to be succesful at it. His son Jean and his grandson Jeremy both followed in his footsteps. Rene and Louise have 5 grand children, 4 great grand sons and 1 step grand daughter.

In 1983, for their 25 year wedding anniversary, Rene and Louise took their first big trip to Europe. This gave them a taste for adventure and travel. In 1992 Rene started working part time while Louise retired from teaching at an" early age" 55 and they continued their adventures to the (Holy Land, Australia, New Zealand, Figi islands, Hawaii, Louisiana and again to Europe. During the winter they spent four months in Arizona and in the summer they would often camp out in their motor home with their grand children.it did not take long for the beds to shrink and the grand children to grow too big for camping with the old folks!

Rene was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He served one year as grand knight for the St Thomas counsel. He is now a member of the 4th degree.

In 2007, they decided to sell their home in Bonnie Doon and live year round in their American Eagle. Yet another adventure! They lived the life for five years, spending six months in Canada and six months in Arizona. Nice life especially if you don't like the cold!! Rene and Louise are both adventurous and very sociable and have made many many friends over the years. Since 2010 they have purchased a park model at Mesa Spirit in Phoenix, Arizona where they still spend their winters and now reside at the "Centre de Sante" St Thomas where they continue socializing and making new friends.

Rene is always ready to help others. He helps Louise with her crafts which are sold every weekend at Farmers Markets. He visits with the sick, rides his bicycle often, does crossword puzzles, reads books and surfs the net for all sorts of juicy information! He plays cards regularly, plays Bingo and never forgets coffee and "Happy Hours"in the afternoon.

They thank God every day for the wonderful life that He has given them and ask Him for continued health!
